Tour host Karen Rinaldo is recognized as a thorough researcher and historically accurate painter. Her First Thanksgiving /1621 painting hung at Plimoth Plantation for 20 years and is currently exhibited on Cape Cod. Her work has been featured in textbooks,magazines and classrooms around the country .
Co-host Kevin M. Doyle, is a retired combat veteran who is a writer and lecturer on historic places and events. His curiosity has inspired him to look for subjects that may be fading from the public memory but deserve to be revived and celebrated by locals and visitors alike.
Karen Rinaldo and Kevin M. Doyle have co-written In the Wake of the Mayflower, which will be introduced and incorporated in their Netherlands travels this Spring.

Day 1: Thursday, April 23, 2020: Travel to Amsterdam
We will depart on our overnight flight to Amsterdam. Mayflower 400 Tours can arrange for pre-tour accommodations in Amsterdam. (IF)
Day 2: Friday, April 24, 2020: Arrival in Amsterdam, Haarlem
Upon arrival at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, we will have a private transfer to our hotel in the historic town of Haarlem, a short distance from Amsterdam. Our tour director will be waiting in the hotel to welcome us with coffee and cake. In the afternoon, we will have an introductory tour of Amsterdam. The capital of the Netherlands consists of 70 islands which are separated by nearly 50 miles of canals and connected by more than 1000 bridges. We will enjoy a narrated canal excursion, passing gabled warehouses, noble mansions, arched bridges, and colorful houseboats. Our Welcome Meal will be at our hotel this evening. (IF/D)
Day 3: Saturday, April 25, 2020: Leiden / Amsterdam, Haarlem
Today is DNA day in Leiden and Karen and Kevin will be giving a presentation to school children. Travel participants are welcome to join them in Leiden or spend the day in Amsterdam. The tour director will be available for a walking tour or suggestions for free time. We will gather back in Haarlem for our evening meal. (B/D)
Day 4: Sunday, April 26, 2020: Amsterdam, Haarlem
After breakfast we will have a guided tour of the Rijksmuseum which has an unrivalled collection of Dutch art. This vast museum opened in 1885 and houses art by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Van Huysum. We will have lunch together, then the rest of the day will be at leisure. There will be an optional tour of the Van Gogh Museum and Rembrandt’s home, then the rest of the day will be at leisure to explore Amsterdam or Haarlem. (B/L)
Day 5: Monday, April 27, 2020: Leiden, Keukenhof, Leiden
Today is King’s Day, a national holiday in honor of the King’s birthday. The Dutch wear orange (the national color) and celebrate with music, fairs and festivals. This morning we will visit the Keukenhof Gardens during the annual Tulip Festival. Every year more than 7 million bulbs are planted with more than 800 different varieties. We will continue on to Leiden and join in the local celebrations. We will dine together this evening. (B/D)
Day 6: Tuesday, April 28, 2020: Aalsmeer, Leiden
After an early breakfast, we will depart to the world’s largest flower auction in Aalsmeer (open 7 – 11 AM). This is the main center where flowers and plants are auctioned and packaged for immediate distribution to all corners of the world, some arriving throughout Europe on the very same day. We will have lunch together in Leiden, then our local guide will take us on a Mayflower-themed walking tour of the city, including the American Pilgrim Museum, dedicated to the Pilgrim Fathers who fled England in 1620 and stayed in Leiden for 11 years before departing for the New World. We will see the exhibit in the Pieterskerk and the area where William Brewster’s printing works was located. Rembrandt was born in Leiden and we will view some of his works on display in the Lakenhal Museum. The rest of the day will be at leisure. There are some magnificent American quilts on display in the Textile Research Center. (B/L)
Day 7: Wednesday, April 29, 2020: Delft, Delftshaven, Leiden
Today’s day trip will begin with a visit to the Royal Delftware Factory, to learn about the history of Blue Delft and its development and production process, while watching the skilled artisans at work. The showroom has a comprehensive collection of hand-painted Delft Blue by Royal Delft, as well as an extensive selection of Dutch earthenware and souvenirs. After lunch together in Delft, we will continue on to Delftshaven to visit the Pilgrim Fathers Church and see the departure point of the Speedwell. We will return to Leiden in the afternoon. (B/L)
Day 8: Thursday, April 30, 2020: Depart
We will transfer to the airport in Amsterdam for our flights to the US. (B/IF)

Transfers are automatically included if we have booked your flights.
If you have booked your own flights, we can still provide transfers, as long as we have your flight details on file and a phone number to give to the driver. We will include your transfer information in your final packet. Transfers will be arranged for each arrival, so that you won’t have to wait for other tour members if their flight is delayed. Transfers can be arranged for the day of your choosing, but we can’t arrange transfers if you arrive or depart by train.
Please note that individual transfers are booked through a third-party and you will be responsible to communicate with the company in case of delays.

If you would prefer to arrive earlier, we can arrange a pre-tour hotel night in Amsterdam. You are welcome to depart at any time on April 30. Please wait until the tour is a guaranteed departure before booking non-refundable airfare, and send us a copy of your flight itinerary for our records as soon as you have booked it.

We offer the Professional Plan offered by Roam Right Insurance, a division of Arch Insurance Company. We offer all of our travelers post-departure insurance coverage (up to $500 of coverage.) If you would like to have pre-tour cancellation and trip interruption coverage, the upgrade cost depends on the tour price. It’s approximately the tour cost (minus the $500 that we cover) x 6.14%. To insure your land costs, the price is $2,899 – $500 x 6.14% = $148. To insure your land and air costs from Boston, the price is $3,699 – $500 x 6.14% = $197. A quote will automatically be added to your invoice and updated once the air cost is available.

Regardless of reason, cancellations are costly. To offset these costs the following fees will apply, plus any non-recoverable expenses to our suppliers:
From time of deposit to until 100 days before departure: $100
From 99-15 days prior to departure: $350 plus any non refundable deposits
14 days or less prior to departure: No refund– Cancellation charges also apply to additional accommodation reserved prior to and after the tour.
– Cancellations must be received in writing by 5:00 p.m. central time on the last business day of the applicable time period.
– For flight changes or cancellations, revision fees and/or airline cancellation charges will apply.
– Roommates canceling can result in a single supplement charge for the roommate. The Participant who cancels will be responsible for that charge if a substitute roommate cannot be found.
– Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance is strongly recommended.
